Persona
For years, I have been captivated by the interplay between the visible and the hidden, drawn to the intangible personas people wear like second skins. These crafted identities, woven from quiet fears, fleeting dreams, and unspoken desires, fascinate me. Each mask whispers a story, revealing as much as it conceals.
Carl Jung’s concept of the persona—the social mask that shields while obscuring—underpins this reflection. Like the masks of ancient Greek theater, these personas balance duality, tools of both revelation and concealment. I find quiet poetry in this paradox, in the layers we build to shield our truths yet cannot fully hide.
These masks often slip through a glance, a gesture, or a moment of hesitation—fragments of selves navigating the tension between authenticity and artifice. Some shield, others deceive, and many simply help us survive the world’s gaze. Their complexity inspires me, as does their power to both protect and isolate.
The figures in Persona are born from this contemplation. They are drawn from people around me, fictional characters I cannot forget, and the blurred space where reality meets imagination. Abstract yet deeply intimate, these silhouettes carry emotions, contradictions, and secrets. To me, they are fragile vessels—each holding its own storm, its own quiet narrative.
In creating this series, I turned to the photogram, a medium as enigmatic as the subjects it represents. Working in complete darkness, these "collages of light" are born through a choreography of luminous fragments, imprinting their stories onto photosensitive paper. Each piece is unique, a fleeting glimpse into the unseen.
